Dwight Howard Files for Divorce After Wife Amy Luciani's Cocaine Allegations Go Viral — CPS Removes Child, Royce Reed Says "I Told You So"
Dwight Howard's marriage is over — again, and this time publicly. The NBA Hall of Famer filed for divorce from wife Amy Luciani on Monday, March 9, hours after she posted tearful social media videos alleging he has a cocaine addiction and that Child Protective Services had removed their daughter from the home. Luciani's videos went viral over the weekend. Royce Reed was ready.
Amy Luciani's Explosive Videos: Cocaine, CPS, and a Clear Bag on Camera
In a series of emotional Instagram videos posted around March 8, Luciani made several bombshell claims — tearfully alleging Howard has a cocaine addiction, even holding up a bag containing a white substance she claimed was destroying their marriage.
"My marriage has landed me in a very dangerous position," she began. "My stepdaughter was just taken by CPS because of her father. CPS, police have been here three times in less than three months, and I stood by my husband — even though I was scared for my own self."
"This is not him," she said through tears. "This is not Dwight. This is trauma, this is everything he been through — but now the kids. I have to advocate for the kids. And I can't go down for what he's doing."
In separate videos, she appeared to confront Howard's 12-year-old son David, accusing Howard of convincing the boy to lie to CPS in a situation involving one of Howard's daughters. The videos have since been deleted.
Howard Files for Divorce Monday — Claims Marriage "Irretrievably Broken"
Howard filed for divorce from Luciani — whose legal name is Amber Rose Howard — on Monday, hours after her videos went public. He claims the marriage is "irretrievably broken." The two are living in a bona fide state of separation with no hope of reconciliation and filed mutual restraining orders against one another, preventing either from harming the other or their children, selling property, cancelling insurance, or disconnecting utilities.
This is not their first filing. Luciani filed for divorce in July 2025, just six months after their January 2025 wedding, but voluntarily withdrew the petition in August. Howard filed a similar petition and also withdrew it. This time, he filed first.
Luciani reacted in The Shade Room's comment section: "Racing me to file first this time is small news when I filed first last year… still not going to visit my stepdaughter one single time who was taken and has been with the state since Thursday is more hurtful to me. Us adults will be ok, but the kids need better."
Royce Reed Fires Back: "I Was Just First. I Was Collateral Damage."
Reed did not hesitate. The Basketball Wives star and mother of Howard's eldest son Braylon, 17, came loaded with receipts and zero patience for sympathy toward Luciani.
"Are you serious right now?" Reed said on Instagram. "You called me crazy, right? You said I was jealous. You said I wanted him when it's always been about the damn kids. No! It's because of what he does to other people. I was just first. I was collateral damage."
Reed accused Luciani of speaking out only after being personally hurt — arguing that if it were truly about the children, she would have opened her mouth long before. "Crying now because she caught him lying on her is selfish AF!" Reed wrote. "If it was about the kids she should've opened her damn mouth a long time ago instead of leaving them for weeks to fend for themselves while you went on trips overseas!"
She addressed the years of dismissal directly. "This girl, the last girl, the one before that called me crazy. Called me a liar. Called me bitter. Laughed at my downfall and threw their dreams in my face as mine turned into nightmares. Now I'm expected to be the bigger person? I'm 5'2"… NAH! I'M RECLAIMING MY TIME!"
Braylon Weighs In — And Howard Has Five Children With Five Different Women
Braylon, Howard and Reed's son, eventually entered the conversation publicly, backing his mother and expressing hope that Howard gets help.
Howard has five children from five different relationships: Braylon with Reed, Layla with Tiffany Render, Jayde with Hope Alexa, Dwight III with Christine Vest, and David with Melissa Rios.
Howard, 40, last played professionally in Taiwan and has not publicly responded to any of the allegations. The cocaine allegations and the CPS case remain unconfirmed in court. Luciani's final comment on the matter, as of Tuesday morning: "This too shall pass."
