Heeseung Officially Leaves ENHYPEN for Solo Career: What BELIFT LAB Said and What Fans Need to Know
Heeseung

K-pop's biggest shock of 2026 landed Tuesday morning. Heeseung, the eldest and main vocal of ENHYPEN, is out — and the group that debuted together in 2020 will now carry on as six.

The Official Announcement

BELIFT LAB posted the news to Weverse on March 10, confirming Heeseung's departure after what it described as in-depth discussions with each of the members about the future they envision and the direction of the team.

The label did not mince words. "Through in-depth discussions with each of the members about the future they envision and the direction of the team, it became clear that Heeseung has his own distinct musical vision and we have decided to respect it," the statement reads. "As such, Heeseung will be parting ways with Enhypen."

The remaining members — Jake, Jay, Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon and Ni-ki — will continue as ENHYPEN, though no specific plans for upcoming releases or tour activity were announced alongside Tuesday's update.

Why He Left — In His Own Words

Hours after the label's statement dropped, Heeseung posted a handwritten letter directly to ENGENE on Weverse. He was candid about the creative tension he had been navigating.

"While sharing the work I've created with the company, I spent a long time discussing with many people about the best way to present it. After thinking deeply, I made a big decision to follow the direction suggested by the company so that I can approach ENGENE with a better side of myself," he said.

"There were a lot of things I wanted to show, but I also didn't want to put my greed ahead of the team," he added — a line that stopped fans cold.

"Thanks to the members with whom I shared countless emotions, and to ENGENE, who always filled every empty space with their support, I was able to take step after step toward a dream that once felt out of reach," he wrote. "I am working hard on an album so I can meet you all again soon."

Six Years, One Group, One Exit

Heeseung debuted as a member of ENHYPEN in November 2020 after appearing on the survival audition program I-LAND. The group launched its career with the release of Border: Day One and quickly built an international fanbase with subsequent releases and global touring. His exit marks the first lineup change for the group since its debut.

He stays on the HYBE sublabel. The 24-year-old will continue under Belift Lab as a solo artist and is preparing a solo album. The contractual relationship with the company remains intact — only the group membership ends.

Fan Reaction: Shock, Grief, Questions

The announcement detonated across social media within minutes. Fans reacted with comments including "Girl what, had to check what day it is today just in case," and "This is out of nowhere, right?!? I saw the Weverse notification and immediately thought, 'why is this so ominous,'" as well as "I'm not an ENGENE in any way and I'm still completely floored. It's gotta be a prank."

The central question fans keep asking is the same one with no clean answer. A recurring issue in fan discussions is why Heeseung couldn't simultaneously pursue a solo career while staying in the group — a path many K-pop idols have taken. Many fans pointed to Yeonjun of TXT, who debuted solo while remaining in his group, as a direct comparison.

Some ARMY fans admitted the news hit them too, with one tweeting: "For those who don't get the weight of him leaving ENHYPEN, it's equivalent to Jungkook leaving BTS."

The timing added another layer. The news of Heeseung's exit came on the same day as netizens marked 11 years of Zayn Malik leaving One Direction, prompting fans to draw immediate parallels.

What Comes Next

Officially, there is no evidence of conflict or mismanagement in Heeseung's departure. Both Belift Lab and Heeseung have emphasized that the decision was made mutually and respectfully, with the focus on personal growth and artistic exploration rather than any personal disagreement.

BELIFT LAB closed its statement with a direct ask of the fanbase: "We ask for ENGENE's continued love and support for ENHYPEN and Heeseung as they start a new chapter of their journey."

A solo album is confirmed and in progress. No release date has been set.
