Crimson Desert Reveals PS5, Xbox Specs and Performance Modes Before Launch
Pearl Abyss is gearing up for the highly anticipated release of its open-world action-adventure title, Crimson Desert. Scheduled for launch on March 19, the game will be available on PC, Mac, and various console platforms. Just nine days before its debut, detailed information on console performance modes for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles has been unveiled.
Performance Modes on Consoles
Crimson Desert will feature three distinct performance modes for both PS5 and Xbox Series X. Here’s a breakdown of what players can expect:
- Performance Mode: Targets 1080p resolution at 60 FPS with VSync. Variable refresh rates can exceed this limit with compatible displays, using an HDMI 2.1 cable. Ray tracing is set to Low.
- Balanced Mode: Upgrades to upscaled 4K from a native 1280p resolution, running at 40 FPS with VSync. Ray tracing settings remain unchanged, requiring 120 or 240Hz displays with HDMI 2.1 support.
- Quality Mode: Upscales to 4K from a 1440p native resolution, locked at 30 FPS with VSync. This mode enhances ray tracing to a High setting, providing superior visual details.
PS5 Pro Capabilities
The PS5 Pro offers improved specifications with the same three modes, but at higher visual fidelity.
- Performance Mode: Upscales 1080p to 4K with an option for uncapped framerates, maintaining High ray tracing settings.
- Balanced Mode: Upscales to 4K from 1440p, allowing for “48+ FPS” via variable refresh rates, while keeping ray tracing at High.
- Quality Mode: Delivers native 4K at 30 FPS and elevates ray tracing to Ultra, promising the best console image quality.
Xbox Series S Limitations
The Xbox Series S, however, faces challenges with Crimson Desert:
- Performance Mode: Targets a disappointing maximum resolution of 720p at 40 FPS, lacking any ray tracing features.
- Quality Mode: Offers 1080p at 30 FPS, but ray tracing is unavailable due to hardware limitations.
System Requirements for Other Platforms
Pearl Abyss also provided specifications for the ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X, which are officially supported. Initial impressions suggest that the Xbox Ally X will handle the game adequately, though specifics are currently sparse. Meanwhile, the compatibility of the Steam Deck remains unconfirmed, but players may face challenges based on earlier PC requirements.
As the release date approaches, excitement builds around Crimson Desert. Early wishlist numbers and positive buzz on social media indicate a promising future for this premium single-player experience from Pearl Abyss.
