Welsh Firm’s Collapse Leads to 138 Worker Layoffs

Amber Energy Solutions, a Cardiff-based energy management consultancy, has collapsed into administration, leading to the loss of nearly 138 jobs. The firm, known for providing energy consultancy and data services across the UK, had previously shown robust performance in 2024. However, the company faced significant cash flow difficulties and declining revenues in 2025.

Administration and Redundancies

With the appointment of joint administrators Matt Whitchurch and Jonathan Dunn from FRP Advisory, the firm has entered a challenging phase. Despite an accelerated marketing process to identify viable options for the business, it became clear that the sale of certain assets would not include the majority of its workforce.

  • Total employees: 143
  • Employees made redundant: 138
  • Remaining employees: 5

Although initial interest was shown from multiple parties, limited asset sales resulted in the redundant positions. The administrators are currently assisting those affected with claims to the Redundancy Payments Service.

Financial Overview

In 2024, Amber Energy Solutions reported a significant increase in revenues, rising from £9.51 million to £11.43 million. The company also achieved a profit of £1.51 million during the same period. Despite this growth, the financial landscape changed dramatically in 2025, leading to its eventual collapse.

Background and Recognition

Founded in 2009 by Nicholas Proctor, Amber Energy Solutions was recognized for its rapid growth, having been featured in the Wales Fast Growth 50 initiative. This program highlights the fastest-growing indigenous firms in Wales based on revenue expansion.

Whitchurch expressed regret over the company’s downturn, stating that they explored options to preserve the business but ultimately could not secure a viable solution. The focus now is to support the affected employees and maximize recovery for the creditors of Amber Energy Solutions.
