Leslie Odom Jr Heads to London: West End Debut in Hamilton This Summer

The stage and screen performer will play Burr for London audiences at the Victoria Palace Theatre from July 3 through September 5. The engagement brings leslie odom jr back to the role he originated, after he won the 2016 Tony Award for creating Aaron Burr in the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical.

Producer Cameron Mackintosh welcomed the short season, pointing to Odom’s performance in the early New York run of the show and expressing excitement that London audiences will be able to see him join the current company at the Victoria Palace Theatre.

In his own statement, Odom described returning to the show as a meaningful creative experience, saying the chance to revisit Burr “with the growth and perspective of time” has been “profoundly healing” and that he is looking forward to crossing the ocean to share the music with an international audience.

Ticket access will roll out in stages. Theatergoers can sign up for priority booking online before noon on March 11. Public booking is scheduled to open March 13 at 11: 00 am GMT, which is 6: 00 am ET.

Odom recently reprised Burr for Broadway audiences in an extended engagement tied to the musical’s 10th anniversary at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, an engagement that was noted for driving ticket prices higher.

The London cast currently includes Alex Sawyer as Alexander Hamilton, Jay Perry as Aaron Burr, Bente Mulan as Eliza Hamilton, Emily-Mae as Angelica Schuyler, Jasmine Jia Yung Shen as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds, Jonathan Andrew Hume as George Washington, Yeukayi Ushe as Marquis De Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Jordan Castle as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison, Jordan Benjamin as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton, and Daniel Boys as King George III. At certain performances, the role of Alexander Hamilton is played by Adam J Bernard.

Odom’s return to Burr comes with major accolades attached to the role. For his portrayal of Aaron Burr, he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical and earned a Grammy Award for his performance on the original cast recording.

Beyond Hamilton, Odom’s recent Broadway credits include a Tony-nominated turn in the 2023 revival of Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch. His screen work has included appearances in The Good Wife, Murder on the Orient Express, Abbott Elementary, and an Oscar-nominated performance in One Night in Miami…. He also hosted The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back on CBS and appears in the filmed TV version of Hamilton.
