Commanders Secure Odafe Oweh with 4-Year, $100M Contract, Agents Announce

Odafe Oweh, a former defensive end for the Los Angeles Chargers, has signed a significant four-year contract worth $100 million with the Washington Commanders. The announcement was made by Oweh’s agents, David Mulugheta and Andre Odom, on Monday. This deal guarantees $68 million of the total amount.

Oweh’s Journey to the Commanders

Oweh’s career has seen notable ups and downs. Originally drafted in the first round by the Baltimore Ravens in 2021, he encountered challenges early in his career. In October, he was traded to the Chargers after struggling with performance, recording no sacks through his first five games in Baltimore.

Performance Shift in Los Angeles

After joining the Chargers, Oweh’s fortunes shifted. He finished the regular season impressively, amassing 7.5 sacks over 12 games. His postseason performance was particularly memorable, as he set a franchise record with three sacks and two forced fumbles during a playoff game against the New England Patriots.

A Promising Future

Standing at 6 feet 5 inches tall and known for his remarkable speed of 4.36 seconds in the 40-yard dash, Oweh is regarded as one of the NFL’s most promising edge rushers. Since 2024, he has recorded 17.5 sacks, placing him 19th in the league.

  • Age: 27
  • Career sacks in five seasons: 30.5
  • Defensive snap percentage with Ravens: 45%

The Washington Commanders are betting on Oweh’s potential to strengthen their defensive lineup. With a new contract in hand, Oweh aims to continue his upward trajectory in the NFL.
