However, Sony’s listing now refers to the main character as “Trevor Belmont’s Successor.” This has raised questions about whether the revelation was premature or incorrect.

Yet, the lead character seen in the teaser was another figure entirely, leading to a wave of speculation regarding their identity.
Sonia Belmont Takes Center Stage
Following the confusion, Sony confirmed that the protagonist of Belmont’s Curse will indeed be Sonia Belmont. This character appears in a retconned capacity, set in the year 1499, 49 years after her original debut in Castlevania Legends, which occurred in 1450. Sonia, portrayed as a 17-year-old in Legends, would now be 66, though she is depicted with vigor in the new game.
The Legacy of Sonia Belmont
Sonia Belmont’s character has a complicated history within the Castlevania franchise. Castlevania Legends was branded a prequel and was the first release after the hugely successful Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. However, former series producer Koji Igarashi later deemed it non-canonical due to contradictions with established lore, including the implication of Alucard in the Belmont bloodline.
