Dwight Howard Wife Amy Luciani Alleges Cocaine Addiction, CPS Takes Daughter as Royce Reed Fires Back
The personal life of former NBA star Dwight Howard is imploding publicly this week. His wife Amy Luciani posted a tearful video on Saturday, March 7, alleging Howard is battling a cocaine addiction that led to Child Protective Services removing their daughter from the home — claims that immediately drew a sharp, vindicated response from his ex Royce Reed.
Amy Luciani Alleges Dwight Howard Cocaine Addiction and CPS Intervention
Luciani posted a video crying and alleging that CPS had been to their home three times in under three months, with the most recent visit resulting in authorities removing their daughter. She pulled out a large bag of what she presented as cocaine, saying Howard needs help and that nobody wanted to listen because he has the money.
Luciani said she had called police on Howard three times during their 14-month marriage, referenced filing for divorce after six months but reconciling after advice emphasizing marital commitments, and said she felt compelled to speak publicly to protect herself and the children involved.
Luciani also posted an audio recording of her confronting Howard's 12-year-old son, whom she alleged Howard coached to lie to authorities to provide an alibi. She reassured the boy that she still loved him after he confirmed what his father had asked him to do.
Royce Reed Fires Back at Amy Luciani With Years of Frustration
Reed, who shares 17-year-old son Braylon with Howard, responded soon after, making clear she feels the situation confirms concerns she has raised for years. She was pointed in her message to Luciani: "It's always been about the kids." Reed also addressed Luciani directly, referencing years she says she was dismissed or criticized for speaking out about Howard.
Reed challenged Luciani's previous characterization of her as jealous or unstable. "You called me crazy, right? You said I was jealous. You said I wanted him when it's always been about the damn kids," she said.
Reed also clarified on her Instagram Story that she was not celebrating Luciani's pain, writing the situation is sad and that the kids never should have been in Howard's custody. She directed her anger at both Howard and at those who dismissed her warnings years earlier.
Timeline of Dwight Howard and Amy Luciani's Troubled Marriage
The couple married January 11, 2025, in a private ceremony after Howard proposed in December 2024. Luciani filed for divorce on July 1, 2025, citing an irretrievably broken relationship, but they later reconciled. The marriage has now collapsed publicly following this week's social media explosion.
Luciani said she stayed in the marriage longer than she otherwise might have because people in her circle urged her to stand by her husband during what they framed as a difficult period. She says she can no longer do that.
Dwight Howard's History of Public Controversies
Howard, 40, an eight-time NBA All-Star and 2020 champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, has not publicly responded to either Luciani's or Reed's allegations. He has five children from five different partnerships.
Reed previously accused Howard of child abuse, inappropriate discussions with their young son, and physical abuse during their relationship. Howard has consistently denied these and similar allegations, with his most recent public statements in 2025 framing past incidents as misconstrued.
As of Monday afternoon ET, Dwight Howard has issued no statement addressing the cocaine allegations, the CPS removal of his daughter, or the social media firestorm engulfing his personal life.
