Northampton Town sack manager Kevin Nolan after one win in 16 league games
Starting Monday, Northampton Town will be led on an interim basis by technical director Colin Calderwood after the club sacked manager kevin nolan. Confirmation came on Monday afternoon after a run of one win in 16 league matches left the club 23rd in League One and three points from safety.
Kevin Nolan record and recent run
Kevin Nolan won 22 of his 70 games in charge at Northampton Town, a record that the club published as part of its review of results. His tenure also saw the side score 31 goals in 36 matches, the second-lowest total in the division.
The club noted that kevin nolan had been appointed in December 2024 after predecessor Jon Brady resigned and that he had guided the team to 19th place last season. Nolan’s final match ended in a 1-0 defeat at AFC Wimbledon on Sunday, which completed the sequence of poor league results.
Colin Calderwood interim role
Technical director Colin Calderwood has been put in charge on an interim basis and will be assisted by Ian Sampson, both former Northampton managers. Calderwood managed the Cobblers between 2003 and 2006 and returned to the club as technical director last January, and he will take training this week.
Chairman Kelvin Thomas said the board were grateful for Nolan’s efforts, noting he helped keep the club up last season and that strong form in the first half of this campaign had given way to a decline since Christmas. The club also pointed out Nolan leaves with their thanks and best wishes.
Kelvin Thomas decision and club standing
The sacking came on Northampton’s 129th anniversary, and the club is the 10th League One side this season to part company with its manager. Northampton remain three points adrift of safety with ten league matches left.
What could reverse the consequence is the immediate run of fixtures, beginning with Saturday’s visit of relegation rivals Burton Albion; the club will assess its options after that game and through the final ten matches of the season.
