Amik Robertson joins Commanders on reported two-year, $16 million free agency deal
Cornerback amik robertson is signing with the Washington Commanders in NFL free agency on a reported two-year contract worth $16 million, including $9. 3 million guaranteed. The move pulls Robertson from the Detroit Lions after two seasons and gives Washington an early addition in the secondary.
Amik Robertson deal terms and free agency move
The agreement between the Commanders and amik robertson was described as a two-year pact valued at $16 million with $9. 3 million guaranteed. The deal was characterized as starting-level money for a cornerback, and it comes as Washington was expected to be aggressive entering the 2026 NFL free agency market.
Robertson, 27, was a veteran free agent cornerback on the market when Washington reached terms with him. One report described him as a highly sought-after option, with multiple teams interested, but the Commanders secured his commitment early in free agency.
Detroit Lions lose Amik Robertson after two seasons
Detroit originally signed Robertson to a two-year, $9. 25 million deal in 2024 after he joined the Lions as a free agency addition from the Raiders. With Detroit, he played both nickel and outside cornerback, appearing in every regular-season game over two seasons and starting 14 contests.
Across those two years with the Lions, Robertson totaled 102 tackles, 20 passes defended, two interceptions, and five forced fumbles. His 2025 season included appearances in all 17 games, with 52 total tackles, two tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, one interception, and 12 pass deflections.
Commanders and Lions next roster questions
Robertson’s departure leaves the Lions secondary facing open questions. Detroit could theoretically line up with Terrion Arnold and D. J. Reed as starters at cornerback, with Ennis Rakestraw potentially challenging for the starting nickel role, but Arnold was described as possibly being in legal trouble and Rakestraw has yet to start a game after playing in eight contests.
Depth was also flagged as an issue for Detroit, with Rock Ya-Sin facing free agency. For Washington, attention now shifts to other needs mentioned in connection with the team, including wide receiver, the future of linebacker Bobby Wagner, and improving the pass rush, after adding amik robertson on the reported two-year deal.
Washington’s next moves in free agency are expected to focus on those remaining roster priorities, after the team reached terms with Robertson on the reported $16 million contract.
