Coby Bryant re-signing effort tops Seahawks free agency buzz report

The Seattle Seahawks will attempt to re-sign safety coby bryant as the NFL’s free agency negotiating window approaches Monday, with interest expected from multiple teams. The push to keep him in Seattle emerged Sunday morning as leaguewide free agency buzz also touched several other Seahawks starters.

Coby Bryant and Seattle’s effort to keep a playmaking safety

Jeremy Fowler wrote that Seattle “will attempt” to re-sign coby bryant, describing him as “one of the hotter names on the defensive side” of the free agent market. Fowler added that Bryant has interest in returning to Seattle but will have other suitors, setting up a competitive market once the negotiating window opens.

Bryant, listed at 6-foot-1 and 193 pounds, began his career as a cornerback before moving to safety and earning a starting job in 2024 under head coach Mike Macdonald. Over the past two seasons, he produced seven interceptions, a pick-six, 13 pass breakups, five tackles for loss and two forced fumbles, while starting 26 games.

Seattle has Julian Love under contract on a three-year, $33 million extension signed in 2024. Ty Okada’s emergence in the secondary has been cited as a possible contingency plan alongside Love, but the Seahawks have been linked to an effort to keep Bryant from reaching the open market.

Jeremy Fowler notes Kenneth Walker III, Boye Mafe and Rashid Shaheed interest

Fowler’s notes also included Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III, with the New York Giants and Washington Commanders identified among teams he will consider, and the Tennessee Titans mentioned as a possibility. Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs interest was framed as potentially dependent on the price range.

With the New York Jets placing the franchise tag on running back Breece Hall last week, Fowler wrote that Walker is now the “market-setter” for this year’s free agent running back class. He added that Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. “will be right there in the mix, ” and wrote that some teams are setting the market’s ceiling at around $12 million.

Fowler mentioned Seahawks edge rusher Boye Mafe multiple times, listing him among edge rushers the Dallas Cowboys will be eyeing and as a “viable edge option” for the Philadelphia Eagles if they cannot re-sign Jaelan Phillips. Fowler also wrote he expects the Las Vegas Raiders to “make a run” at wide receiver and return specialist Rashid Shaheed, noting Shaheed’s familiarity with Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak from their time together with the New Orleans Saints in 2024 and again with the Seahawks in 2025 after Shaheed arrived in a midseason trade.

NFL free agency dates set the timeline for Seahawks decisions

The NFL’s free agent negotiating window begins at 10: 00 am ET Monday, with the official signing period beginning at 2: 00 pm ET Wednesday. If Seattle cannot complete a new deal before Bryant reaches the market, the Seahawks will have to compete with other teams for him once negotiations open.
