DTF St. Louis

HBO's newest dark comedy has arrived and the buzz is real. DTF St. Louis premiered on March 1, 2026 and has quickly become one of the most talked-about new shows of the year, earning 86% on Rotten Tomatoes and generating comparisons to some of the best suburban noir television of the past decade.

What Is DTF St. Louis?

DTF St. Louis is an American dark comedy television miniseries created by Steven Conrad for HBO. The seven-part series is about a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise, which leads to one of them ending up dead.

The series combines sex, murder, and betrayal in the entanglements between Clark, a local weatherman, his new friend Floyd, and Floyd's wife Carol — set against an exquisitely banal suburban backdrop of brands like Purina, Outback Steakhouse, and Jamba Juice.

DTF St. Louis Full Cast

The cast includes Jason Bateman, David Harbour, Linda Cardellini, Richard Jenkins, Joy Sunday, Arlan Ruf, Peter Sarsgaard, and Chris Perfetti.

Cardellini plays Carol, Floyd's wife and a part-time Little League umpire dealing with financial strain and marital dissatisfaction. Speaking about the role, she said the writing moved her deeply, adding the material felt a little dangerous and brave and that being part of the cast was a real gift.

Critics have singled out Harbour as the cast standout. One review noted that Bateman is always a supremely watchable actor, but the standout is Harbour, who has sort of gone "Raging Bull" for his role as Floyd.

The Creator's Vision — Why Middle Age?

Creator Steven Conrad has shared that the idea for the series grew from his observations about people around him in middle age. He told People: "I'm in my middle age, and most of my friends are too, and somehow or another, it's another phase of life where people make terrible decisions." Conrad compared the experience to being a teenager again, when people are often unsure of themselves and searching for acceptance, adding that the desperate need to fit in or find someone to feel safe comes back around in middle age.
