Colorado Avalanche Captain Landeskog Out Week-to-Week With Lower-Body Injury Ahead
Sunday at 12: 30 p. m. ET, the Colorado Avalanche announced that captain Gabriel Landeskog is week-to-week with a lower-body injury and will not play in the team’s game against the Minnesota Wild at Ball Arena. The timing follows an injury sustained during the club’s Friday shootout victory over the Dallas Stars.
Landeskog missed three full regular seasons from 2022-25, underwent multiple surgeries including a cartilage transplant on May 10, 2023, and was sidelined for 1, 032 days before returning in Game 3 of the 2025 Western Conference First Round.
Injury details and season production for Gabriel Landeskog
The 33-year-old captain has 29 points in 47 games this season, with nine goals and 20 assists, and he has recorded seven points in six games since returning from the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. Landeskog skated in the season despite a Jan. 4 upper-body issue that did not prevent him from joining Team Sweden, where he had four points (two goals, two assists) in five games.
Friday incident involving the Dallas Stars and Cale Makar
The lower-body injury was linked to Friday’s 5-4 shootout win over the Dallas Stars, when Landeskog took a puck in the groin area off the stick of teammate Cale Makar. He finished that game with 22: 54 of ice time, an assist and two shots on goal before being ruled week-to-week ahead of Sunday’s matchup.
Roster impact, recent moves and divisional stakes
Colorado sits atop the Central Division with a 42-10-9 record, seven points ahead of the Stars and nine points ahead of the Wild. The team was active prior to the trade deadline, acquiring forward Nazem Kadri, centre Nicolas Roy and defenceman Brett Kulak. Nazem Kadri is expected to replace Landeskog in the lineup for the immediate games following the announcement.
The Avalanche play the Minnesota Wild at Ball Arena Sunday at 12: 30 p. m. ET. If Landeskog remains week-to-week, Nazem Kadri is set to take his spot in the lineup.
