Fernando Alonso Provides Health Update Following Australian GP
Fernando Alonso has shared an update regarding his health following his retirement at the Australian Grand Prix. The incident raised concerns as Aston Martin team principal Adrian Newey indicated that both Alonso and his teammate Lance Stroll were at risk for “permanent nerve damage” due to vibrations from the Honda power unit.
Retirement at the Australian GP
Before the race weekend, Newey noted that Alonso anticipated being unable to complete more than 25 laps. Stroll expressed confidence in completing only 15 laps. During the race, Alonso initially retired but returned to the track shortly after, ultimately stopping for good on Lap 21 of 58. Stroll, on the other hand, managed to rejoin and completed 43 laps, finishing in a non-classified position, last of the 17 finishers.
Health Update on Vibrations
After being questioned on his physical condition following Newey’s comments, Alonso acknowledged that the vibrations remained a challenge. “It is similar to Bahrain, and it is not the best feeling with this level of vibration,” he explained to the media, including representatives from RacingNews365. He added, “Honda believes the battery vibrations have decreased since Bahrain, but we still need to address the chassis issues.”
Looking Ahead to China
- Alonso mentioned that further modifications to isolate the battery are needed.
- He expressed hope for improvement in the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix.
- “We will try to do our best in China and do as many laps as possible,” he said.
Reflecting on his performance, Alonso highlighted his thrilling start, noting he moved from 17th to 10th place. “The start and the first two laps were the most enjoyable part of the race,” he stated. However, he soon faced difficulties, explaining, “We were completely out of position in P10, but I fell back to P17 due to a small data issue that required stopping the car.” Ultimately, Alonso returned to the track but encountered further problems, necessitating another stop.
As Alonso looks towards the future, he remains optimistic about overcoming current challenges and improving the team’s performance in the upcoming races.
