Fans Face New Security Checks as Ipl 2026 Returns to Chinnaswamy
Spectators and Royal Challengers Bengaluru fans will face tighter security and infrastructure checks before matches, Wednesday at 11: 00 a. m. ET, after Karnataka granted conditional approval to host ipl 2026 fixtures at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The state says all safety recommendations must be implemented and extra police will be deployed.
M. Chinnaswamy Stadium: what spectators will experience under G. Parameshwara’s plan
Anyone attending matches at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium should expect enhanced crowd control and greater police presence, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara said, with the police department reviewing arrangements daily. Parameshwara added that a sufficient number of police personnel will be deployed around the stadium to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during the cricket matches.
Ipl 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru to play five home games at Chinnaswamy
The state has sanctioned a conditional approval to host ipl 2026 matches, and the stadium is slated to host five Royal Challengers Bengaluru home games, including playoff fixtures and the final scheduled to be held in Bengaluru. KSCA Official Spokesperson Vinay Mrityunjay said the association has worked extensively to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming fixtures and appealed to fans to cooperate with authorities.
KSCA, Greater Bengaluru Authority and the Justice Michael D’Cunha Committee oversight
Authorities are enforcing recommendations from the Justice Michael D’Cunha Committee and have formed a committee led by Greater Bengaluru Authority Chairman Maheshwara Rao to oversee readiness. Rao has contacted RCB and KSCA and held discussions, and Rao told them that only after fulfilling the conditions will the matches be allowed, Parameshwara said.
KSCA stated a formal agreement will be in place among the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the Karnataka State Cricket Association and Royal Challengers Bengaluru prescribed guidelines; the association said it will hand over the stadium to RCB in accordance with the set norms. Emphasising safety, Vinay Mrityunjay said the security of spectators remains the top priority and appealed to fans to make use of public transport to ensure smooth crowd management and enhanced safety.
That safety emphasis follows the state government’s earlier ban on holding cricket at the stadium after a tragic stampede on June 4, 2025, in which 11 people were killed; the ban was a central factor in the stringent conditions now tied to hosting matches.
If the committee’s recommended conditions are fulfilled and the formal agreement among the Board of Control for Cricket in India, KSCA and Royal Challengers Bengaluru is executed, the sanctioned matches will be allowed to proceed.
