Malloy Smith arrives at UNC as a 6-foot-6 guard from California who played at Mater Dei High School. This season, he averaged 8. 6 points, 4. 3 rebounds and 2. 5 assists per game.
He is not ranked on any major recruiting service’s top 100 list, a detail that frames how his commitment may be viewed compared with more heavily ranked prospects. Still, his offer from UNC came after an in-person visit to Chapel Hill in February, and his recruitment also included consideration of an offer from ACC foe Cal before he chose the Tar Heels.
