Legoland Unveils Lego Galaxy Featuring Its Most Thrilling Coaster
Legoland in Carlsbad, California, has expanded its offerings with the launch of Lego Galaxy, a new 2.4-acre themed area. It officially debuts on Friday and features its most thrilling ride yet, the Galacticoaster. This indoor attraction takes riders on a space-themed journey, where they must rescue a Lego galaxy from an impending asteroid threat.
Galacticoaster: The Fastest Ride
The Galacticoaster is Legoland’s quickest ride, reaching speeds of 40 mph over a duration of about 60 seconds. This spinning coaster combines fun and adventure, ensuring it appeals to families while serving as an introduction for older kids to more intense coaster experiences. The ride is characterized by its vibrant atmosphere, incorporating humor and whimsical scenes, such as floating farm animals in a cosmic setting.
Innovative Features and Attractions
Tom Storer, North American project director for Merlin Magic Making, highlights the ride’s unique features. Guests will encounter an animatronic character named Biff Dipper, who welcomes them into the story of the ride. This marks the first inclusion of an animatronic figure at Legoland, helping enhance the overall guest experience.
Interactive Experiences
In addition to Galacticoaster, Lego Galaxy offers two other attractions. The Rocket Assembly Bay provides a gaming experience where visitors can create and scan their own virtual spaceships. Another attraction, the G-Force Test Facility, simulates astronaut training, featuring spinning vehicles elevated off the ground. Guests can enjoy family-oriented rides designed for various height requirements, with plenty of engaging elements throughout the area.
Investment and Future Plans
The development of Lego Galaxy is part of a significant $90 million investment by Merlin Entertainment into both Legoland California and Florida parks. The goal is to modernize experiences and attract new visitors by leveraging the latest technologies. Legoland officials anticipate that the Galacticoaster, along with the entire galaxy-themed area, will draw families looking for thrilling yet family-friendly amusement park attractions.
