Seth MacFarlane Confirms No Plans for ‘Ted’ Season 3

Fans of the “Ted” franchise will be disappointed to learn that there are currently no plans for a third season. Seth MacFarlane, the creator and voice behind the iconic teddy bear, confirmed this while discussing the future of the series streaming on Peacock.

No Plans for ‘Ted’ Season 3

During a recent interview with TheWrap, MacFarlane mentioned that the production costs for the show are “really expensive.” He noted that Peacock and Universal have communicated that the series is not feasible to produce at a lower cost. “What I kept hearing was that there’s no way to do it at a lower cost,” he stated.

In response to these financial constraints, MacFarlane has already crafted the final scene of Season 2, featuring young John, portrayed by Max Burkholder, walking into a gym. This scene hints at a connection to the first “Ted” film starring Mark Wahlberg.

Production Challenges

The creative team of Brad Walsh and Paul Corrigan faced significant challenges during production. MacFarlane remarked, “We kind of painted ourselves into a corner.” He acknowledged that while there may always be a way to continue the story, it would require some “narrative acrobatics.” Currently, however, there are no developments for a Season 3 renewal.

Future Projects

Despite the lack of a third season, an animated spinoff is set to premiere on Peacock later this year. This new venture explores the adventures of Ted and John in a different format.

About the Ted Franchise

The original “Ted” movie was released in 2012, followed by a sequel in 2015. Both films starred Mark Wahlberg as John, who wished his stuffed bear to life during childhood. The series follows the younger version of John, played by Max Burkholder, as he navigates high school in Framingham, Massachusetts, alongside his talking teddy bear.

MacFarlane highlighted the challenges of weekly production, comparing it to the demand of producing a major film like an “Avengers” movie every 22 minutes. He credited the extensive experience gained from the original films for helping the production team manage these challenges effectively.

While there is no immediate plan for ‘Ted’ Season 3, fans can look forward to the upcoming animated series and reflect on the cherished moments from the earlier films and seasons.
