Police Arrest Protesters Amid Demonstration Clashes
On a recent Saturday, a protest in Bristol resulted in clashes and multiple arrests. Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that six individuals were apprehended following disturbances during the demonstration.
Bristol Protest and Counter-Protest Overview
Approximately 40 members of a group called Bristol Patriots initiated a march from the Cenotaph in St Augustine’s Parade. Their route was intended to take them through Broadmead and Castle Park before returning to the starting point.
However, the situation escalated when about 200 counter-protesters from the group Stand Up To Racism arrived. The presence of both groups led to heightened tensions, and police intervention became necessary.
Police Response
To separate the groups and maintain order, over 200 officers were deployed. Police used batons and mounted units to create a barrier between the protest and counter-protest.
Despite their efforts, disorder erupted, and items were thrown at officers. At Penn Street, the march was directed back toward the Cenotaph to ensure safety and mitigate further clashes.
