Former Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Reaches Plea Deal, Awaits Sentencing

Sherrone Moore, former head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, has reached a plea deal following legal troubles stemming from a personal relationship. In a court appearance on Friday morning, Moore and his legal counsel confirmed a plea agreement with prosecutors related to charges from an incident involving a subordinate.

Plea Deal Details

During an evidentiary hearing at the 14A-1 District Court in Ann Arbor, Moore pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges:

  • Malicious use of a telecommunications device
  • Trespassing

These charges emerged from accusations of improper conduct within a domestic relationship, leading to serious legal implications for Moore. In return for his plea, previous charges of home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering were dismissed.

Background of the Case

Moore was dismissed from his coaching position in December by Athletics Director Warde Manuel due to his inappropriate relationship with a subordinate. Shortly after his termination, he faced allegations of breaking into the woman’s home, which prompted further court proceedings.

Sentencing Information

Moore’s sentencing hearing is set for Tuesday, April 14, at 2 p.m. Legal experts suggest that the malicious use of a telecommunications device charge could result in up to one year in prison. The trespassing charge carries a maximum sentence of one month.

Despite the potential penalties, many believe Moore is unlikely to serve actual prison time. The outcome of his sentencing will determine the final legal ramifications of his actions.
