Nicolas Deslauriers traded to Hurricanes as Flyers pick up conditional 2027 seventh-rounder
The Philadelphia Flyers have traded forward nicolas deslauriers to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, a move that pushes the Flyers to nine selections in that draft and creates roster and cap flexibility ahead of their next game.
Flyers add another 2027 pick, now hold nine selections
General Manager Daniel Briere announced the Flyers acquired a conditional 7th-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft from Carolina in exchange for Deslauriers. The deal leaves Philadelphia with nine total picks in 2027: two first-round picks (the Flyers’ own and a conditional pick from Toronto), two third-round picks (the Flyers’ own and Los Angeles’), and two seventh-round picks (the Flyers’ own and the one acquired from Carolina).
Nicolas Deslauriers gives Hurricanes a physical option up front
Deslauriers will join Carolina to add size and physicality to the forward group. He has appeared in 195 games with the Flyers over the last four seasons (2022-26) and logged 701 career NHL games with 105 points (53 goals, 52 assists) overall. The Hurricanes picked up a veteran winger who brings a net-front presence and a willingness to fight: his career totals include 794 penalty minutes and more than 70 fighting majors, and he is listed at 6'1", 220 pounds.
Immediate roster effects for Philadelphia
On trade deadline day the Flyers also moved Bobby Brink to Minnesota for defenseman David Jiricek, shrinking their forward group. The Deslauriers trade frees up about $1. 75 million in salary-cap space and opens at least one roster spot the club expects to fill with recently signed Garrett Wilson or top prospect Alex Bump. Deslauriers finished his Flyers stint with nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points in 195 games, and this season he had one point (an assist) and 33 penalty minutes in 20 games.
The Hurricanes are banking on Deslauriers to provide the kind of grit they felt was missing as they chase a deeper postseason run; he last played postseason games in 2021-22 with Minnesota, appearing in five playoff contests that spring. For the Flyers, the trade is part of a continuing roster retool that increases their draft capital and creates short-term flexibility before the league’s 3 p. m. trade deadline.
Philadelphia is scheduled to play the Pittsburgh Penguins tomorrow at PPG Paints Arena at 5: 30 p. m., and the team heads into that game with an expanded 2027 draft inventory and a cleared roster spot to use immediately.
