Apple Tv to Premiere Twisted Yoga, a Three-Part True Crime Docuseries

apple tv will debut Twisted Yoga, a three-part investigative docuseries on March 13, with all three episodes available that day. The series follows women who say they were drawn into an international network of tantric yoga centers and are now working with French authorities.

Apple Tv premiere set for March 13

Twisted Yoga was produced for apple tv by Lightbox in association with Ladywell Films and is directed by Rowan Deacon, whose past work includes Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story. Executive producers on the project are Simon Chinn, Jonathan Chinn, Suzanne Lavery and Bernadette Higgins, with the series packaged as three episodes that launch together on March 13.

What the series examines

The series centers on several young women who say they were gradually drawn into the influence of Gregorian Bivolaru, the Romanian founder of the Movement for the Spiritual Integration into the Absolute, later known as the Atman Yoga Federation. The filmmakers say the story tracks these women’s accounts of being allegedly indoctrinated into sexual exploitation and that Bivolaru often summoned select female students to his Paris apartment for private initiations.

Legal status, responses and filmmaking approach

Bivolaru was arrested in Paris in 2023 and now faces charges in France, including human trafficking, kidnapping and rape; he denies the allegations. The women featured in the series have been working with French authorities as part of those proceedings. The Atman federation told investigators it is not responsible for the private life of staff, students and teachers of affiliate schools and said current allegations remain under investigation and unproven. Producers contacted Bivolaru through his legal representatives but did not receive a response.

Director Rowan Deacon and executive producer Suzanne Lavery said they approached the material from a psychological perspective rather than sensationalizing it, seeking to understand the women’s experiences and how they were drawn into the schools’ teachings and practices.
