The announcement came on Thursday afternoon. Petry, 38, has played in 58 games this season for the Panthers, tallying eight points, all of which are assists. He averages 14:51 in ice time per game and is under contract with a cap hit of $775,000 through the end of the season.
According to the Wild’s press release, the conditional draft pick can be elevated to a fifth-round selection in the 2026 NHL Draft. This upgrade will occur if Minnesota wins two playoff rounds and Petry participates in 50% or more of their playoff games in the first two rounds.
Jeff Petry’s Career Overview
Petry was originally selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the second round of the 2006 NHL Draft, going 45th overall. He played three seasons at Michigan State University before beginning his professional career with the Oilers in 2010.
During his time with the Oilers, Petry played for parts of five seasons before being traded to the Montreal Canadiens in the 2014-15 season. The Canadiens sent second- and fourth-round picks in the 2015 NHL Draft to acquire him. He performed admirably during his tenure with Montreal, contributing crucial play that helped lead the team to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final.
