Highlander original screenplay becomes graphic novel ahead of Henry Cavill reboot

henry cavill’s delayed Highlander reboot will now share the spotlight with a new adaptation of the franchise’s original vision: Titan Comics will publish Highlander: The Original Screenplay, a graphic novel drawn from Gregory Widen’s initial script and slated to arrive in bookstores on November 17, 2026.

Highlander: The Original Screenplay adapts Gregory Widen’s version

The graphic novel follows the original screenplay by Gregory Widen and features artwork by Szymon Kudranski, the artist known for his work on Spawn; Titan Comics is handling publication for the volume that revisits Connor MacLeod’s story across centuries, with lavish illustrations that depict epic duels and shadowed rivalries. Editor Jonathan Wilkins said, “It’s a genuine thrill to bring this story back as originally envisaged by the man who created it all, Gregory Widen, ” and noted the project lets readers experience avenues the screenplay explored before filming began.

Henry Cavill movie delayed until 2027, original script shows darker MacLeod

While the Henry Cavill-led reboot was pushed to 2027, the graphic novel exposes major differences between Widen’s original script and the finished film: the screenplay presents Connor MacLeod as an outright anti-hero who lacks the nobility seen on screen, includes a scene where he meets the Kurgan in 18th century France, and ends with MacLeod killing his love interest, Brenda, to protect the Immortals’ secret. Those plot points contrast with the cinematic cuts that were made to soften MacLeod’s character in the released movie.

Cut scenes and a different Ramirez appear in the adaptation

The adaptation restores several scenes removed from the film: in Widen’s script, Connor leaves his home village of his own accord rather than being banished, and a cut exchange has Ramirez warning MacLeod that an Immortal who refuses to live and love freely risks becoming like the Kurgan — cold and fixated on conquest and The Prize. The graphic novel’s treatment of Ramirez and the Kurgan underscores the screenplay’s more philosophical tone and its framing of MacLeod and the Kurgan as two sides of the same coin.

Highlander: The Original Screenplay will be published by Titan Comics with art by Szymon Kudranski and editor Jonathan Wilkins overseeing the adaptation; four uncolored pages from the graphic novel were released as an early look, and pre-orders are already live for the November 17, 2026 street date. With the Henry Cavill reboot now scheduled for 2027, this graphic-novel release gives fans the chance to read Gregory Widen’s original Highlander narrative before the new film opens.
