Bullets Hit Thornhill Gym of Iranian-Canadian Activist in Shocking Incident
A Thornhill boxing gym, tied to an Iranian-Canadian activist, experienced a shocking shooting incident early Sunday morning. The event followed a significant demonstration that took place in support of U.S. and Israeli military strikes that resulted in the death of Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Details of the Shooting Incident
Salar Gholami, the gym’s owner, reported that his facility was struck multiple times by bullets. He believes the attack was a direct response to his participation in the demonstration, where he celebrated the military strikes. Despite the incident, Gholami remains defiant. “Our gym is just a regular gym. It’s crazy,” he expressed in an interview, adding that he counted approximately 70 bullets fired at the facility.
Location and Damage
The Saliwan Boxing gym is located at 7027 Yonge St., north of Steeles Avenue. The aftermath included visible bullet holes and shattered glass at the entrance. Disturbingly, the gym was unoccupied during the shooting, and there were no injuries reported.
Community Response and Investigation
The York Regional Police (YRP) are currently investigating the shooting. They are seeking assistance from the public for any surveillance footage that may aid in the case. The forces noted that the building showed clear signs of gunfire but stated the motive for the shooting remains unclear, with no suspects identified at this time.
