One person is in critical condition and eight others were injured in a cincinnati shooting that occurred shortly before 1 a. m. at Riverfront Live, a music venue at 4343 Kellogg Ave. on Cincinnati’s east side. The venue was hosting a birthday party that began at 10 p. m. Saturday.

Injuries and UC Medical Center

Eight people were taken to UC Medical Center, UC spokesperson Heather Chura Smith said. Smith said one person is in critical condition, five are stable, and two people were treated and released from the hospital. A hospital spokesperson said one person was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and has since been released.

Video shows crowd fleeing

Video from the security cameras at a nearby business shows a crowd running out of the venue after the first shots were fired inside. Witnesses and family members described people dropping down, running toward exits and jumping a fence to reach safety; one person ran across to a United Dairy Farmer after leaving the venue, relatives said.

Cincinnati Shooting police response

Officers confirmed the incident is isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public. Cincinnati police said around 3: 30 a. m. Sunday, “This investigation is still ongoing. ” No suspect description has been released.

Victim family accounts and quotes

Relatives of victims spoke publicly about the chaos and the injuries. Antoinette Coates said her 35-year-old son was among those injured and was shot four times but is expected to be okay. Coates emphasized: “If you’re going to be having these parties, protect your people. ” She added, “Evidently, they’re letting people in without searching them, and they’re letting guns in, or they’re letting people bring guns, but I could have lost my son because somebody is being too cheap or too careless. ”

Angel Potts, the mother of a 25-year-old victim, said her daughter was with a group of friends celebrating a friend’s birthday when the shooting began. “She was leaving the bathroom and there was a few people in front of her and that’s when they started hearing the gunshots, ” Potts said. “And then she said they just dropped down and some of them went running and she went running towards the door and went out of the door and jumped the fence and went across to a United Dairy Farmer. ”
