This remarkable improvement project was funded through a collaboration of Federal, State, and local governments, alongside WA Cricket and Cricket Australia. The journey to this opening was not without challenges. Initial proposals faced rejection from the City of Perth due to cost concerns for local taxpayers. A council estimate suggested the city pool would incur costs of $125.5 million over four decades, averaging about $3.1 million per year. In response, then-WA Premier Mark McGowan mandated a new business case, which brought the projected yearly costs down to around $1.1 million.
