NRL Star Removed from LA Flight by Paramedics
Chad Townsend, a former NRL star, experienced a medical emergency on a flight from Sydney to Los Angeles. Paramedics assisted him off the plane after he fainted mid-flight. Passengers waited as he exited the aircraft for medical attention.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning (AEDT). Townsend reported feeling unwell before collapsing. According to Code Sports, he experienced a sudden increase in blood pressure, which prompted medical intervention on board.
“I started to get hot and cold shivers,” Townsend recalled. “I was sweating really bad when I tried to get up and went to the toilet. The next thing I remembered was waking up on the floor with an oxygen mask.”
Medical Assistance
During the flight, a doctor from Michigan and a nurse, Brooke Gidley, responded to his distress. Gidley is the wife of former Newcastle player Kurt Gidley. Townsend expressed gratitude for their prompt care, stating that he felt normal again and was eager for the upcoming NRL season opener.
