Dolphins GM: 'Everything's on the table' with Tua Tagovailoa
At the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan said "everything's on the table" with quarterback tua tagovailoa, including the potential of a trade. Sullivan added the club has spoken with Tua and his representation as Miami sorts through scenarios for the quarterback's future.
Tua Tagovailoa's future left open at the Combine
Sullivan told assembled teams and media that "We've had conversations with Tua and his representation. Everything's on the table, including the potential of a trade. " He noted that while "things didn't go well at the end of the year, " Tua had "some good things along the way" and that it is the GM's job "to infuse competition into that room. " Sullivan spoke from the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Trade, release and roughly $99 million in dead money
The team is weighing how to move on while managing the payroll: one path discussed in Indianapolis was a release that would leave roughly $99 million in dead money on the books, potentially split over two years with a post-June 1 designation. Sullivan said the Dolphins remain hopeful a trade partner might emerge but acknowledged the club may need to make difficult financial choices.
Cap strain, Malik Willis and the quarterback market
Sullivan flagged the club's salary-cap situation as a factor, saying the Dolphins are "in a bit of a strain salary-cap wise" and that teams sometimes "kick the can down the road. " He mentioned free-agent quarterback Malik Willis as one player under consideration, praising Willis's progress in his two years in Green Bay and calling him "a very, very good kid. " Sullivan also noted the roster picture will be shaped under his first year alongside coach Jeff Hafley and that Quinn Ewers finished the season as the Dolphins' starter.
Sullivan framed his comments on the record: "I think Tua had some bright moments, " and he reiterated his belief that Tua "believes that he can still be a high-level quarterback in this league, " while adding that "where that happens remains to be seen, whether that's here or elsewhere. " The GM said the organization has "talked about a lot of people, a lot of free agents, " with Malik Willis among those discussed.
For now, the immediate decisions are procedural and financial: trade talks may continue, a release with a post-June 1 designation remains an option, and the front office will work through cap calculations as it builds the roster in Year 1 under Sullivan and Hafley. Sullivan delivered his remarks Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis and said the club will keep evaluating its options as it moves through the offseason calendar.
