Brighton Heights Mom Charged After Threats at Pittsburgh Public Schools Office
Kemauri Vasciannie, 23, of the South Side Slopes has been charged after police say she threatened secretaries at a Pittsburgh Public Schools building and threw objects at staff, prompting officers to respond on Feb. 5.
Pittsburgh Public Schools secretaries threatened at John Morrow Elementary
Officers were called to John Morrow Elementary School, 1611 Davis Ave. in Brighton Heights, on Feb. 5 because of what the criminal complaint describes as “combative adults causing a disturbance. ” Vasciannie and a second woman who was not identified in the complaint had entered the K-8 school under the guise of “wanting to enroll her child in school, ” the complaint says.
The criminal complaint says the women began threatening two secretaries with bodily harm and physical violence once inside the school. Vasciannie is identified in the complaint as a parent of a child attending John Morrow.
Principal, staff and the scene police encountered
The principal met officers at the scene and told police the women entered the building “under false pretense, ” the complaint says. Vasciannie alleged a secretary had hung up on her when she called the school; the complaint says the secretary told Vasciannie she had ended the call because Vasciannie “was using profanity and she would not engage in that type of communication. ”
The complaint says Vasciannie threw a bottle of hand sanitizer and other items sitting on the counter at the secretaries. The two women also threw metal objects at the secretaries, the complaint says, and threatened to return at dismissal to “physically harm the secretaries. ” The complaint quotes Vasciannie saying, “I know when you get off, I’ll be up here at 4. ”
Employees escorted the women out of the building, and the complaint says the women fled the scene when police arrived.
Charges filed and immediate consequences
Vasciannie is being charged with two counts of terroristic threats, two counts of simple assault and two counts of harassment, the complaint states. The criminal complaint is the source of the account of events inside the school and the threats made toward staff.
The school remains a K-8 site at the 1611 Davis Ave. address, and school employees who escorted the women out are named in the complaint as the staff members who confronted the visitors. The second woman involved was not identified in the complaint.
Police action and the charges mark the immediate legal response to the incident at John Morrow Elementary. Vasciannie faces the counts listed in the complaint as the criminal process moves forward.
