School Closings And Delays are in effect across parts of far East Tennessee after a winter weather advisory that warns of slippery roads and another round of snow. The National Weather Service issued the advisory as flurries began and temperatures fell, prompting district-by-district decisions that will affect Monday, Feb. 23 (ET) schedules.
National Weather Service advisory: snowfall totals, wind and travel warnings
The National Weather Service said the region will see "occasional snow showers through Monday night, " with accumulations of up to 4 inches expected and even higher totals at the top of Great Smoky Mountains peaks. Forecasters said it will be very cold and windy and advised people to "Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. "
Hazardous outlook across most of East Tennessee; Knoxville and Oak Ridge on schedule
Most of East Tennessee is under a hazardous weather outlook as flurries started to fall and temperatures dropped. The advisory noted that heavy snowfall is not predicted for Knoxville or Oak Ridge, and schools in Knoxville and Oak Ridge are on schedule for Monday, Feb. 23 (ET).
County closures: Campbell, Carter, Claiborne and Grainger
Several counties announced full closures for Monday, Feb. 23 (ET). Campbell County Schools are closed for Monday, Feb. 23. Carter County School District is closed Monday, Feb. 23. Claiborne County Schools are closed for Monday, Feb. 23. Grainger County Schools are closed for Monday, Feb. 23.

Cocke County Schools will open on a two-hour delay for Monday, Feb. 23 (ET). Sevier County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay for Monday, Feb. 23 (ET). Heritage Christian Academy announced a two-hour delay for Monday, Feb. 23 (ET). Scott County Schools are closed for Monday, Feb. 23, while the Scott County Central Office and related departments are on a two-hour delay.
Other closures and special arrangements: Johnson, Rogersville, Unicoi and Union
Johnson County Schools are closed Monday, Feb. 23 (ET). Rogersville City School is closed for Monday, Feb. 23 (ET). Unicoi County Schools will have no in-person learning on Monday, Feb. 23 (ET); virtual learning will begin at 10 a. m. ET. Lunches will be available for pickup for all students at either Unicoi Elementary or Unicoi High School between 11 a. m. and 1 p. m. ET, and students can go to whichever school is closer. Union County Schools are closed for Monday, Feb. 23 (ET), while the Union County Central Office will be open.
