Jacob Bridgeman climbs into share of lead at Genesis Invitational

jacob bridgeman moved into a tie for the lead at 12 under through two rounds at the Genesis Invitational, joining Marco Penge while Rory McIlroy sat one shot back after carding a second-round 65 at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.

Jacob Bridgeman's hot start at Riviera

Bridgeman signed for a 5-under 66 in the opening round and then added a 64 in his second round to reach 12 under overall. On Thursday he opened his first round with an eagle at the par-5 1st, dropped a double bogey at No. 4 to return to even par, then reeled off birdies at Nos. 10 and 11 and again at Nos. 16 and 17 in that first round. The 26-year-old from South Carolina is still seeking his first PGA Tour victory and had five top-10 finishes in 2025.

Penge's late burst and a 27-hole Friday

England's Marco Penge carded an eight-under 64 in his second round, hitting five birdies across his final seven holes to move to 12 under alongside Bridgeman. Penge had to complete nine holes from a weather-delayed first round before starting his second, producing a 27-hole Friday; he also revealed that his wife is expecting the couple's second child next week after a recent move to Florida.

McIlroy, weather and the suspension that stretched the day

Rory McIlroy fired a seven-under 65 in round two to reach 11 under and described Riviera Country Club as "more forgiving" than Pebble Beach, saying, "There's no Pacific Ocean to hit it into around this golf course, so that helps. " Play was suspended early Thursday at 10: 13 a. m. local time because heavy rain left too much water on the greens, and play later resumed in the afternoon at 1: 09 p. m. local time. Action was halted again by darkness at 8: 41 p. m. ET, leaving remaining players to finish their first rounds on Friday morning.

Other names on the leaderboard included Xander Schauffele and Adam Scott at nine under, while Scottie Scheffler holed a seven-foot par putt at the 18th to make the cut at level par. Aaron Rai had birdied the par-3 16th to reach six under during Thursday's action before play was suspended for the day.

Bridgeman called his opening-round performance "great, " reflecting on a finish that echoed his recent form at Pebble Beach. With Penge and Bridgeman at 12 under and McIlroy at 11 under after two rounds, the tournament heads into the weekend with a tight top of the leaderboard at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.

The next scheduled step is completion of the suspended first-round holes and the start of round three on Friday, when the remaining players will finish their opening rounds and the field will move toward the weekend pairings and final 36 holes.
