Steve Perry Might Rejoin Journey for Farewell Tour, Band Members Say
Journey has reached out to steve perry to join portions of their Final Frontier farewell tour, Jonathan Cain said, keeping the possibility of a reunion alive as the band prepares to open the run on Feb. 28 in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Steve Perry invited to appear on any stop
Cain said guitarist Neal Schon has already asked Steve Perry to come out for at least some dates, and that Perry "is thinking about it. " Cain added, "He didn't say no — leave it at that, " leaving open how many shows, if any, the former lead singer might play on the tour that has roughly 100 shows planned.
Tour opens Feb. 28 in Hershey with Arnel Pineda fronting
The Final Frontier Tour begins Feb. 28 in Hershey with Arnel Pineda as Journey's current and longest-tenured frontman; Cain said Pineda is rested and ready after dealing with a legal issue back home in the Philippines. The first leg of farewell shows runs through July, and Cain said more dates have been promised as the tour continues.
What Perry's potential return would recall
Fans’ interest centers on a singer who first replaced Robert Fleischman as Journey's lead vocalist in 1977, left the band in 1987, and reunited with Journey in 1996 to record Trial by Fire. The 77-year-old later released solo work including the 1994 album For the Love of Strange Medicine, details Cain and others referenced while discussing the outreach to steve perry.
Cain noted that he and Schon have put aside past personal and legal disputes to focus on the music for the farewell run; Cain also said he is unsure what Schon will do after the tour, adding, "Wait 'til that time and see. I just know that's it for me. "
If Perry accepts any invitation, the band has left his participation flexible: Cain said Perry is welcome to appear at any one of the tour's dates. That openness means a potential guest appearance could come at a Hershey stop on Feb. 28 or at another show during the run that continues through July.
The next confirmed milestone is the tour opener on Feb. 28 in Hershey, Pennsylvania; Journey will begin the Final Frontier Tour with Arnel Pineda and has said more dates are planned as the farewell itinerary continues.
