The shooting took place on Radway Road, Huyton, at about 22: 20 GMT on Friday 28 November (5: 20 p. m. ET). The victim, a man in his 20s, was shot in the leg and left in a critical condition after being shot twice on the driveway, and was rushed to hospital.
Warrants across Knowsley, Sefton and Liverpool led to four arrests
Police carried out a number of warrants across Knowsley, Sefton and Liverpool on Thursday and arrested four people who have now been charged. The men charged are identified as Patrick Lacey, 32, of Manor Avenue, Crosby; John Jones, 35, of Stamfordham Drive, Allerton; John Hughes, 31, of no fixed abode; and Bernard Flynn, 61, of Knowsley Road, Bootle.
All four face charges including attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, possession of a shotgun and ammunition with intent to endanger life, section 18 grievous bodily harm and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.
Investigation continuing, police ask witnesses to come forward
Detective Inspector Chris Clark from the firearms investigation team said: "These coordinated warrants were carried out as part of an ongoing investigation, and all four men will appear in court today. " He asked anyone with first-hand accounts, dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or other footage to come forward so the team can make the appropriate assessment.
Police named the former footballer at the centre of the charges as Patrick Lacey; the man is also known in coverage as Paddy Lacey and has previously played for clubs including Accrington Stanley and trained with academy setups earlier in his career.
All four defendants are due to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens Adult Remand Court later, which is the next confirmed step in the case.
