Toy Story 5 trailer reunites Woody, Buzz and Jessie as toys face a high-tech threat

Disney and Pixar released a 2 1/2-minute trailer for toy story 5 that reunites Woody, Buzz and Jessie and shows the toys reacting to new technology — setting up a central conflict that forces the playroom to compete for a child's attention.

Toy Story 5 headed for theaters on June 19

The trailer runs two and a half minutes and teases a plot about obsolescence and distraction as Bonnie receives a new device called Lilypad. Voiced by Greta Lee, Lilypad is described as a high-tech, frog-shaped smart tablet that vies for Bonnie’s attention and complicates the toys’ purpose in playtime.

The clip includes direct exchanges that underline the stakes: Lilypad asks Woody, "What are you, some sort of old man toy?" Woody replies, "What?" and Forky quips, "She thinks you're old because you're bald, Woody. " Another beat shows Rex yelling, "Extinction, not again!" as toys react to the new gadget.

Reunion: Woody returns to his original toy family

The trailer also shows how Woody — who chose to leave his caretaker Bonnie at the end of the previous film to live off the grid with Bo Peep — reconnects with his original band of playmates. Jessie reaches out to Woody by walkie-talkie at one point, and Woody has a nostalgic reunion with Buzz Lightyear as they begin to tackle tasks to keep toys from becoming obsolete.

Voice cast highlights named in the trailer include Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie and Tony Hale as Forky. New cast additions called out by the production include Greta Lee as Lilypad, Craig Robinson as Atlas (a cheerful talking GPS hippo toy), Shelby Rabara as Snappy (an excitable camera toy), Mykal-Michelle Harris as Blaze (an independent 8-year-old girl who loves animals) and Matty Matheson as Dr. Nutcase (a tech-fearing toy).

Returning franchise voices listed for the film include Annie Potts as Bo Peep, John Ratzenberger as Hamm, Wallace Shawn as Rex, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog, Jeff Bergman as Mr. Potato Head, Anna Vocino as Mrs. Potato Head, Bonnie Hunt as Dolly, Melissa Villaseñor as Karen Beverly, John Hopkins as Mr. Pricklepants, Kristen Schaal as Trixie, Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl and Keanu Reeves as Duke Caboom.

Director credits name Andrew Stanton as director with Kenna Harris as co-director, and Randy Newman returns to score his fifth Toy Story film. The production’s next confirmed public milestone is the film’s theatrical release on June 19.

One memorable trailer moment set up early in the clip shows Bonnie staging a mock wedding between Forky and Karen Beverly, then reacting with excitement when the Lilypad package arrives in the mail — a sequence that frames the device as the new focal point of Bonnie’s play and the toys’ new adversary.

The trailer places the familiar ensemble back at the heart of the story while introducing modern tech as the antagonist, and the film itself is scheduled to open in theaters on June 19.
