Smithfield Foods Inc., known for its long-standing presence in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is embarking on a historic transition. The company will invest over $1.3 billion in a new state-of-the-art plant, replacing its current facility established 117 years ago.
New Plant Development in Sioux Falls
The new facility will be located on a 200-acre site in northwest Sioux Falls. This strategic move comes after CEO Shane Smith acknowledged the limitations of renovating the existing plant, prompting a decisive shift towards constructing a modern facility from the ground up.

The area will be renamed The Sanford District, reflecting its transformation potential. The donation to the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation will enable the purchase of the 120-acre property adjacent to Falls Park.
