Landslip Halts Rail Service Between York and Leeds

A landslip in the Wakefield region has significantly disrupted rail services between York and Leeds. Travelers are facing challenges due to blocked lines, as announced on Sunday, February 15.

Landslip Disrupts Rail Services

National Rail has warned that major disruptions are expected to last throughout the day. Key routes affected include:

  • LNER services between Peterborough and Leeds/Bradford Forster Square/Harrogate
  • Northern services between Sheffield/Doncaster and Leeds

Additional Factors Impacting Travel

Compounding the problem, engineering work is occurring on the same day between Peterborough and Kings Cross. As a result, through services into London are currently unavailable.

Alternative Travel Options

To support affected passengers, buses are replacing some trains that would normally operate through Wakefield Westgate. Other trains are being diverted to circumvent the issue. Some services are still operating from Leeds to Doncaster via York and Castleford.

Travelers can use their tickets with no extra charge on the following services:

  • TransPennine Express between Manchester, Leeds, and York/Newcastle
  • Northern between Carlisle and Newcastle
  • CrossCountry between Sheffield/Doncaster, York, and Newcastle/Edinburgh

Customers may also utilize their tickets on alternative train services up to two hours before or after the canceled service. This includes the two LNER services adjacent to their original travel times. Additionally, passengers deferring their journeys can use their tickets without cost on Monday, February 16.

Travelers are advised to stay updated on service changes as the situation evolves.
