Pebble Beach Pro Am: Bhatia Holds Two-Shot Lead as Weather Forces Early Final-Round Tee Times
Akshay Bhatia will attempt to secure his third PGA Tour title on Sunday, February 15, at Pebble Beach, entering the final round with a two-shot advantage. With inclement weather on the way, tournament organizers moved tee times earlier and will send groups off split tees in threesomes to finish play before the worst of the storm arrives.
Weather shortens window, players tee off in threesomes
Organizers tightened the schedule for the concluding round to beat the forecasted weather. Groups will start in threesomes from split tees, compressing the normal final-round window so the field can complete 18 holes before conditions deteriorate.
The tournament has no cut this week, meaning all 80 players in the limited-field event will be on the course Sunday. All competitors played Pebble Beach on Saturday and will return to the same layout for the finish, where coastal winds and firm/soft green variations are expected to complicate scoring.
Final group, contenders and late-season form
Bhatia turned in a 68 in Round 3 to reach 21 under and will lead a trio off the first tee at 12: 45 p. m. ET: Akshay Bhatia, Collin Morikawa and Sepp Straka. Jake Knapp also sits two shots back and tees earlier in the 12: 34 p. m. ET group with Jacob Bridgeman and Hideki Matsuyama.
Bhatia has been among the season’s most consistent contenders, with previous wins at the Barracuda Championship and Valero Texas Open. He said on Saturday that staying steady through mistakes is key: “I still have always tried to put one foot in front of the other and that’s just what I’ve got to keep doing. It’s so early in the season. Whether I win tomorrow or not, it’s just continuing to contend in tournaments. And these last two weeks, having a chance is really nice. ”
Morikawa and Straka will be in the thick of it for the final stretch, and several other big names remain within striking distance. Scottie Scheffler, who has racked up a series of top-10 finishes this season, sits outside the top 20 after a third-round 67 and will need a low Sunday to contend. The seaside holes at Pebble Beach — notably the short, dramatic par-3s and the long, wind-affected par-5s — typically reward players who can manage wind, trajectory and green speed under pressure.
Saturday featured a mix of standout shots and costly miscues. One example: a drive that drifted toward the ocean on the par-5 sixth left a top player to take a drop and try to salvage the hole, while another competitor nearly aced the iconic seventh. Those moments underline how quickly a leaderboard can swing on the cliffs above Stillwater Cove.
