Seaside Town Draws Thousands for Major Spectacle

A seaside town in the UK is set to captivate visitors with a spectacular art installation during the February half-term. Lightport, a vibrant light art event, transcends Southport’s iconic Lord Street over three remarkable evenings from February 14 to 16. This event marks the launch of Southport 2026, a year dedicated to celebrating the town’s rich cultural heritage.

Lightport: A Dazzling Showcase

Lightport promises to transform the town into an interactive canvas of colour, sound, and movement. Spanning a 400-metre route, visitors can immerse themselves in a stunning array of illuminated artworks inspired by rainbows. This event, developed by the renowned international artists at Lucid Creates, aims to brighten the winter evenings for attendees of all ages.

An Unforgettable Experience

This immersive installation features:

  • Glowing arches
  • Immersive soundscapes
  • Large-scale interactive artworks

These installations foster curiosity and connection, creating memorable moments for families and visitors alike. Ella Willis-Nasseri from Lucid Creates expressed excitement about the collaboration with Sefton Council, emphasizing the reimagining of the town centre through light and sound.

Free Admission and Family-Friendly Fun

Operating from 5 PM to 9 PM each evening, Lightport is free, making it an ideal half-term attraction. Cllr Marion Atkinson, Leader of Sefton Council, highlights that Lightport is not just a display but a joyful experience for all. It serves as a precursor to an exciting year for Southport, with ongoing regeneration projects and a calendar filled with free events.

The festive atmosphere of Lightport is a perfect antidote to winter blues. Attendees can look forward to an enchanting evening filled with creativity and community spirit throughout the light installation’s run.
