An ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie, has attracted significant attention. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is exploring various leads while working with a Florida lab known for DNA testing.
Arizona Sheriff Defends DNA Testing Choices
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos recently discussed the rationale behind sending evidence to a lab in Florida for DNA analysis instead of utilizing the FBI’s facility in Quantico, Virginia. Nanos emphasized the importance of consistency in testing, stating, “Let’s just use one lab; they have it all.” This approach helps maintain clarity in the investigation process.
Current Status of the Investigation
Despite the ongoing DNA tests, authorities have not yet identified a suspect. According to Sheriff Nanos, investigators are carefully analyzing the DNA samples retrieved from various locations linked to Nancy Guthrie. Some evidence does not match her or close contacts, leaving investigators to identify the source.
As of now, there has been no definitive proof of life for Guthrie, but Sheriff Nanos acknowledged that there are also no indications of her death. “I think the suspect should be afraid every night. We’re going to find you,” he warned during a recent briefing.
FBI Involvement and Public Assistance
The FBI has become directly involved in the case, releasing a description of a male suspect captured on Nancy Guthrie’s home security camera. The individual is approximately 5 feet, 9 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall, wearing a ski mask and gloves, and carrying a distinctive black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack, which is sold exclusively at Walmart.

The FBI has increased its reward for information regarding Guthrie’s whereabouts to $100,000. The agency has asked residents within a two-mile radius of her home to submit any video footage captured between New Year’s Day and February 2, the day after she was reported missing.

Investigators have also found several pairs of black gloves, some located approximately two miles from Guthrie’s home. These gloves are currently undergoing DNA analysis. The proximity of the gloves found to her residence has raised further interest in their potential significance.
