Canada Reveals Its Most Ambitious Electric Vehicles Yet

Canada is making strides in the electric vehicle (EV) sector with the unveiling of two new concept cars, the Vector and Borealis. These models are part of Project Arrow, an initiative by the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association (APMA) aimed at showcasing Canada’s capability to produce EVs independently.

Key Features of the Vector and Borealis EVs

Both vehicles feature innovative designs, including a 3D-printed chassis and self-driving technology. They were revealed at the 2026 Canadian International AutoShow (CIAS) and represent a significant step forward for Canadian automotive engineering.

Vector: High Performance and Innovation

  • Power Output: The Vector boasts an impressive 650 horsepower, an increase from the previous model’s 550 hp.
  • Driving Range: It offers an estimated range of 341 miles (550 kilometers).
  • Autonomous Capabilities: Equipped with Level 3 automated driving functions for hands-off, eyes-off driving.

The APMA believes the Vector sets a foundation for commercial-scale innovations in line with the 2030 mobility environment.

Borealis: A Glimpse Into the Future

  • Chassis Construction: Borealis features a 3D-printed metal-alloy chassis.
  • Autonomous Technology: It aims to integrate a Level 5 fully autonomous driving system.
  • Driving Range: The Borealis is projected to have a range of around 932 miles (1,500 kilometers).

This model serves as a showcase for the future capabilities of the Canadian automotive supply chain, focusing on the next decade’s vehicle technologies.

Partnerships and Collaborations

Project Arrow, which commenced in 2023, has brought together over 80 Canadian automotive suppliers and partners. This collaborative effort includes Ontario Tech University as a key player in the development of both prototypes.

While recent changes allowed for the importation of Chinese-made electric cars without tariffs, Canada remains committed to its EV development. The APMA’s efforts with Project Arrow highlight the country’s ambition to create a strong and self-sufficient automotive industry focused on electric and automated vehicles.
