SpaceX Crew-12 Successfully Launches to International Space Station

NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 mission successfully launched from Florida, marking another milestone in human spaceflight. The mission took place on Friday at 5:15 a.m. EST from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

Launch Details

The Crew-12 mission utilized a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to transport a Dragon spacecraft into orbit. Onboard were four crew members:

  • Jessica Meir (NASA)
  • Jack Hathaway (NASA)
  • Sophie Adenot (ESA)
  • Andrey Fedyaev (Roscosmos)

The spacecraft is scheduled to dock autonomously with the International Space Station (ISS) at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, February 14.

Mission Objectives

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman praised the professionalism and teamwork involved in the mission. “With Crew-12 safely on orbit, we continue to advance technologies essential for deep space exploration,” he stated.

During its duration, Crew-12 will conduct significant scientific research aimed at both space exploration and practical benefits for life on Earth. Key studies include:

  • Improving treatments for pneumonia-causing bacteria.
  • Developing on-demand intravenous fluids for future missions.
  • Investigating the effects of physical characteristics on blood flow in space.
  • Monitoring plant health and enhancing food production in space.

Mission Monitoring

SpaceX will track the Dragon spacecraft’s maneuvers from their mission control center in Hawthorne, California. Concurrently, NASA’s Mission Control Center at Johnson Space Center in Houston will oversee the ISS operations.

Live Coverage

NASA will provide live coverage of the spacecraft’s docking and hatch opening. This coverage will resume at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday across multiple platforms, including NASA+, Amazon Prime, and YouTube.

Joining the Expedition 74 Crew

Once docked, Crew-12 will join Expedition 74, bringing the station’s crew count back to seven. This includes:

  • Chris Williams (NASA)
  • Sergey Kud-Sverchkov (Roscosmos)
  • Sergei Mikaev (Roscosmos)

Expedition 74 will continue advancing scientific research, benefiting both space exploration and life on Earth.

Commercial Crew Program

Crew-12 forms part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, which partners with private companies to provide reliable access to space. This program aims to maximize the International Space Station’s utility for research while preparing for future missions beyond low Earth orbit.
