Censor Board Abridges ‘Woman Slap Scene’ in O’Romeo, Replaces ‘Item’ with ‘Kumari’
Shahid Kapoor’s highly anticipated film, O’Romeo, is set to release in theaters tomorrow. This marks the actor’s fourth collaboration with acclaimed director Vishal Bhardwaj. O’Romeo has been granted an ‘A’ certificate by the Censor Board of Film Certification, making it Shahid Kapoor’s second consecutive film to receive this rating after Kabir Singh.
Censor Board Modifications to O’Romeo
As reported by Bollywood Hungama, the Censor Board mandated several changes to the film’s content prior to its release. Key alterations included:
- Replacing the term ‘Item’ with ‘Kumari’.
- Muting one word and deleting an ‘inappropriate’ term in the dialogues.
- Reducing violent scenes, including:
- A 20% reduction (3 seconds) of a throat-cutting close-up visual.
- A 2-second decrease in two shots featuring bloodshed and blood squirting on a woman’s face.
- A 20% reduction (2 seconds) of a visual depicting a woman being slapped.
Additional Changes and Runtime
The final version of O’Romeo also includes mandatory anti-tobacco and anti-smoking disclaimers. Consequently, the length of these disclaimers, along with their voice-over, was increased, adding 1 minute and 57 seconds to the film’s overall runtime. Following these modifications, the film was awarded a censor certificate on February 11. The official runtime stands at 178 minutes and 41 seconds.
