Disney Unveils New Frozen Ever After Animatronics at EPCOT
Disney has announced significant upgrades to the Frozen Ever After attraction at EPCOT, showcasing new Audio-Animatronics for its beloved characters Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff. The revamped figures will debut on February 12, 2026, following a comprehensive refurbishment of the ride.
Upgraded Audio-Animatronics
The new animatronics are designed to enhance the storytelling experience for visitors. Disney aims to deliver a more authentic representation of the characters, aligning closely with their appearances in the films. This transformation is inspired by advancements made at the World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland.
Key Features of the New Figures
- Articulated heads with silicone skin replace previous projection-based faces.
- Improved facial expressiveness enhances emotional connection.
- Refined body movements increase realism and immersion.
- Closer resemblance to characters from the Frozen films.
Technological Innovations
The upgrades incorporate technology previously utilized for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and newer international installations. Ken Ricci, an executive with Walt Disney Imagineering, expressed his excitement: “Seeing the upgraded Elsa figure will be awe-inspiring as it appears as if she has stepped right off the screen.”
Additional Enhancements
Beyond the animatronics, Disney has refreshed the attraction’s show lighting and updated the scenic elements, ensuring that the entire experience feels new. Ricci stated, “Anytime an attraction goes down, we take an opportunity to freshen up what we can.”
Seamless Integration and Testing
The modifications also included adaptations to the figures’ necks for the new heads and enhancements to the control systems. These updates required extensive coordination among various technology teams and on-site installation crews, currently engaged in final testing.
Frozen Ever After at EPCOT
Originally opened in 2016 within the Norway Pavilion, Frozen Ever After replaced the Maelstrom ride. The attraction debuted with all-electric Audio-Animatronics and utilized innovative 3D-printed components, setting new standards for theme park experiences.
