Breezy Johnson Reveals Plans for Repaired Olympic Gold Medal
American skier Breezy Johnson has shared her experiences following her gold medal win at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy. After her original medal broke, she has received a replacement, which she treats with great care. Johnson expressed disappointment that medalists need to be cautious while celebrating, saying, “It’s all anybody wants to do.”
Breezy Johnson’s Gold Medal Experience
Initially, Johnson was informed that she would not get her original medal back. However, this medal has been repaired, and she plans to trade in the replacement. To keep her gold medal safe, she intends to knit a special pouch. Johnson, an enthusiastic knitter, creates new hats or headbands for each race, viewing it as a superstition. After each race, she retires these accessories, stating, “They’re piling up in my bags.”
Plans for Charity
- Johnson is considering auctioning her handmade race accessories.
- She wishes to donate the proceeds to charitable organizations.
Dedicated to her father, Johnson remarked that he can no longer ski due to personal reasons. She believes that the best tribute is to ski as fast as she can. Despite winning gold, the Milano-Cortina 2026 Games have not been entirely successful for her. Johnson struggled in the team slalom event with teammate Mikaela Shiffrin, failing to reach the podium.
Focus on Skiing
Addressing the political climate surrounding the Games, Johnson chose to remain focused on her sport. “There’s been a lot of rhetoric,” she said. “I prefer to focus on my skiing and donate to charities that I support.”
Johnson’s success in the downhill race came after the injury of fellow skier Lindsay Vonn during the event. After winning gold, Johnson received a congratulatory message from Vonn, who is facing challenges in her career.
The Thrill of Downhill Skiing
Describing downhill skiing, Johnson said it involves extreme speeds and risks. “Eighty-five miles an hour, nothing to protect you except spandex,” she explained, likening the sport to “Formula One on ice.”
As this thrilling journey continues, Johnson remains committed to her passion for skiing and her charitable efforts.
