Although she was not officially representing him, she accepted gifts like boots and handbags, referring to him affectionately as “Uncle Jeffrey.” Ruemmler attended his arraignment in July 2019.

Despite growing allegations, Epstein’s standing did not deteriorate immediately. Only in 2018 did the tide begin to turn after investigative journalist Julie Brown published a series exposing Epstein’s sex trafficking and a lenient deal he received in 2008 from prosecutors.

Brad Karp, chairman of the law firm Paul, Weiss, was another figure entangled in the scandal. Although he was not Epstein’s attorney, he offered feedback on a letter Epstein’s legal team prepared in response to a critical editorial. Epstein expressed his appreciation for Karp’s judgment and friendship.

Karp’s association with Epstein arose from his work with Leon Black, a billionaire who allegedly paid Epstein substantial sums for tax and estate planning services. Recently, Karp resigned from his position at Paul, Weiss, citing distractions created by media reports surrounding Epstein’s connections.
