Ferrari Unveils Electric Car Luce with Jony Ive-Designed Interior

Ferrari has officially introduced its first all-electric vehicle, the Ferrari Luce. The name “Luce,” which translates to “light” in Italian, symbolizes the company’s commitment to electrification in automotive design. The sleek vehicle was unveiled in San Francisco, where significant details about its interior were showcased.

Interior Designed by Jony Ive’s LoveFrom

The interior of the Luce was co-designed by Jony Ive’s creative agency, LoveFrom, which emphasizes tactile controls over the growing trend of touchscreen interfaces found in many electric vehicles. This design philosophy highlights Ferrari’s aim to create a unique driving experience, integrating physical elements that enhance user interaction.

Key Features of the Ferrari Luce Interior

  • Steering Wheel: A three-spoke design inspired by classic Nardi wooden wheels, made from 100% recycled aluminum. This lightweight wheel is 400 grams lighter than a standard Ferrari steering wheel.
  • Key and Startup Ritual: The key utilizes Corning Fusion5 Glass with an E Ink display, marking it as an industry first. Upon inserting the key, the display transitions from yellow to black as the cabin lights illuminate in a choreographed sequence.
  • Binnacle: This component adjusts with the steering wheel and features two overlapping Samsung OLED displays that introduce an additional display behind, another first in the automotive world.
  • Control Panel: This panel is designed to orient towards the driver or passenger and includes a unique “multigraph” with clock, chronometer, compass, and launch control modes powered by three independent motors.
  • Materials: The interior is crafted from a blend of precision-milled Corning Fusion5 Glass and 100% recycled aluminum alloy, showcasing Ferrari’s commitment to sustainability.

Anticipated Launch and Pricing

The full exterior reveal of the Ferrari Luce is scheduled for May 2026 in Italy. Initially, Ferrari confirmed a 2025 launch as part of six new vehicles slated for that year. However, the exterior unveiling has since been postponed. The expected price for the Luce exceeds €500,000 ($535,000), positioning it as a luxury electric supercar.

The Future of Electric Cars at Ferrari

This well-planned collaboration with LoveFrom highlights Ferrari’s strategic approach to entering the electric vehicle market. The brand aims to retain the essential elements that define a Ferrari while embracing new technology. With many buyers apprehensive about electric cars, the tactile features are designed to provide an experience that rivals traditional Ferrari models.

The Ferrari Luce aims to redefine expectations for electric supercars while delivering a compelling driving experience. As the company prepares for this new chapter, the integration of classic design with innovative technology sets a promising tone for the future.
