Hengdian Lantern Festival Illuminates Countdown to Lunar New Year
As the Lunar New Year approaches, the Hengdian Lantern Festival has illuminated the celebrations at Hengdian World Studios. This annual event, taking place from February 7, 2026, showcases a vibrant blend of culture and festivity, transforming scenic spots across the city into a spectacular display of lights.
Highlights of the Hengdian Lantern Festival
This year, the festival draws inspiration from Chinese fantasy and film culture, particularly from the Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shan Hai Jing). Attendees can explore 22 large-scale themed lantern installations designed around four immersive dreamscapes:
- Human World
- Spirits
- Immortals
- Future
Cultural Performances and Activities
Festival-goers can enjoy a variety of entertainment options, including:
- Intangible cultural heritage fire shows
- Traditional Chinese magic
- Exciting acrobatics
Additionally, starting from February 7, over 300 costumed characters will parade through the streets. The festival plans to host more than 360 performances daily, enriching the Lunar New Year atmosphere.
National Recognition
Last year’s event showcased Song dynasty aesthetics and was selected to represent Jinhua, Zhejiang, at the CCTV Lantern Festival Gala, sharing the spotlight with other major cities like Harbin and Nanjing.
Expanded Festival Offerings
This year, Hengdian World Studios enhances the festival experience by incorporating immersive film worlds and traditional parades. From February 17 to February 23, the six-day New Year OST Music Festival will present beloved film and television soundtracks, creating a festive musical ambiance.
Guests can also enjoy the Clown Carnival at Hengdian International Circus City, featuring interactive sessions with acrobats and magicians. Meanwhile, the Dragon Lantern Cultural Festival at Yuanming Garden features daily performances and hands-on lantern-making activities.
New Family Portrait Experience
This festival introduces a unique “Enter-the-Drama Family Portrait” service by Hengdian Travel Photo Services. This offering combines cinematic backdrops with professional photography, allowing families to capture unforgettable moments.
