Mia Brookes: A Rising Star in Snowboarding

Brookes will begin her Olympic campaign this Sunday, having missed the chance to compete in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics due to her age. She will be competing in both Big Air and slopestyle events. Recently, she achieved gold at the X Games, positioning her as a leading contender to become the first British athlete to win two medals at a single Winter Games.

A Remarkable Journey

At just 16, Brookes became the youngest snowboarding world champion and the first from Britain to earn that title. She was also named the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year in recognition of her outstanding achievements in snowboarding.

Mia’s introduction to snowboarding came at a tender age. She first tried the sport when she was only 18 months old at the Kidsgrove Ski Centre in Stoke-on-Trent. Ann Loton, chairwoman of the North Staffs Ski Club, has known Brookes since her early days in snowboarding. She described Mia as “very special,” highlighting her family’s passion for the sport.

Loton mentioned that the pride within the North Staffs Ski Club is palpable, with a signed snowboard from Mia displayed at the centre.
