Nebraska Softball Newcomers Excel in Opening Day Doubleheader Split

The No. 10 Nebraska Cornhuskers showcased a promising start to their season with a split in their opening day doubleheader at the UTSA Invitational. They secured an 8-5 victory against Washington and faced a tough challenge, losing 15-10 to the No. 1 Texas Longhorns. Freshman Alexis Jensen shone brightly, earning a win in her collegiate debut. She struck out ten batters and allowed five runs, three of which were earned, across five innings. Jensen’s accomplishment marks the first time since 2009 that a true Husker freshman pitcher recorded double-digit strikeouts in her debut.

Notable Performances

• Jesse Farrell: The junior catcher transferred from UNLV and made an impressive debut, hitting two home runs. She finished the day with five hits from six at-bats, driving in three runs and scoring three times.
• Hannah Coor: A senior outfielder who transferred from Oklahoma, Coor had a notable outing as the leadoff batter. She hit a three-run homer against Texas, finishing with four RBIs despite only one hit for the day.
• Lauren Camenzind: The senior second baseman contributed with a three-run home run in the win against Washington, going 1-for-2 in that game.
